A:	The practice of printing alias name on the passport has been discontinued. Only the applicant's real/ official name will be printed on the passport.

A:	Alias name is the additional information that is used by police authority during police verification of the applicant.
Q4:	Is an applicant required to provide any additional documents to verify his alias name?

FAQs - Surrender Certificate

Q1:	What is a Surrender Certificate?
A:	A Surrender Certificate is issued to applicants willing to surrender their passport at Passport Offices mainly for renunciation of Indian citizenship and acquiring foreign nationality. This is a chargeable miscellaneous passport service and can be availed after applying for Surrender Certificate through Passport Seva Website (www.passportindia.gov.in), and later visiting the Passport Office with the required documents. Note: Individuals applying for Surrender Certificates with any reason other than 'Acquiring Foreign Nationality/Renunciation of Indian Citizenship' need to visit the Passport Office directly i.e. without filling the application form physically or online. Examples of such applicants may be the Diplomatic/Official passport holders willing to surrender their ordinary/diplomatic/official passport.

If you have acquired the Foreign Nationality before 01-Jun-2010 then you need to pay Five Hundred Indian Rupees (500 INR).
Q5:	What are the documents required for Surrender Certificate?

FAQs - Passport Seva Camp

Q1:	What is a Passport Seva Camp?
A:	Passport Seva Camp refers to the mobile van or temporary PSK deployed in various areas situated far from the regular PSKs such as identified cities/towns and University Campuses. Applicants residing in the notified areas may visit these Camps to submit their passport applications. Each Camp will have Citizen Service Executive(s), Verification Officer(s), Granting Officer(s), consoles (with Internet facility) and various devices required for application data entry processing such as camera, document printer/scanner and fingerprint capture device.
Q2:	What category of applications can be submitted at Camp?
A:	Only applications for Fresh issuance or Re-issue (except Lost/Damaged) of passport under Normal scheme can be submitted at Camps. Tatkaal, PCC and other miscellaneous applications are not accepted at Camps.
Q3:	Do I need to submit a passport application form online (through Passport Seva Portal) before visiting a Camp?
A:	Yes. You need to submit the application form online and then print the online Application Reference Number (ARN) receipt, which must be carried along while visiting a Camp for passport application submission.
Q4:	Can I apply for Tatkaal passport through Camp?
A:	No. Tatkaal applications are not accepted at Camps.
Q5:	Can I apply for Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) application through Camp?

A: LoC Permits are issued only by RPO Jammu and RPO Srinagar to those Jammu and Kashmir residents who want to visit their relatives living across the Line of Control (LoC) for valid reasons (like attending wedding ceremonies). Similarly, Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PAK) Authorities also issue LoC Permits to the Jammu and Kashmir natives residing on that side of the LoC for visiting their relatives across LoC. Q1:	The applicant is staying at Bangalore for the last two years and permanent address is in Kerala. Can he/she endorse his/her permanent address instead of present address in the passport?
A:	Only the present address will be endorsed on the passport and not the permanent address.
Q2:	I have stayed at three different addresses during last one year. Will the police verification be done at all the places?
A:	Yes. The police verification will be done at all the three addresses where the applicant has resided in the last one year.
Q3:	While applying for fresh passport, the applicant mentions his paying guest address as present address in the application form. If the applicant shifts to another address before police verification, what should he/she do?
A:	He/She should intimate the Department In charge of Police Station.
Q4:	I am a self employed person and have recently shifted to Bangalore from Delhi. I want to apply for passport on Tatkaal basis, but I don't have any address proof. What should I do?
A:	It is mandatory to submit proof of address to apply for passport. Short Validity Passports
Q7:	In what cases Short validity passport (SVP) is issued? What documents are required to be submitted?
A:	Short Validity passport (SVP) is issued in following cases: In case of urgency, students can be issued a SVP on production of admission letters if they are to appear in examinations, such as TOEFL, SAT etc. Such applications can also be processed under the Tatkaal Scheme, if they are accompanied by verification certificate as prescribed, and proof of urgency is furnished to the Passport Office(PO). There are instances of non-delivery of passports to the applicants due to loss in transit in the post offices. In case of urgency, a SVP may be issued to the applicant, the validity to be extended to full term on completion of the formalities. Indians residing abroad and visiting India for a short period: SVP can be issued immediately, valid for one year, on production of return ticket to the country from which the applicant came and/or a document of identity such as driving license, Green Card, employment permit, social security card, health card, labour card etc. indicating the applicant's identity and nationality. If the application is for issue of duplicate passport in lieu of damaged passport, the damaged passport itself may be accepted as proof of identity provided the personal particulars are clear and legible. If a criminal case is pending against the applicant in any Court, he/she can be issued a passport subject to the condition that a written permission granted by the court allowing the applicant to travel abroad is enclosed. Normally a SVP valid for one year is issued, subject to conditions if any, mentioned in the Court order as per GSR 570 (E) dated 25 August, 1993.

A:	The validity of passport would be decided by Assistant Passport Officer/RPO , if you apply for renewal of Short Validity Passport.

Q9:	Incorrect details have been printed on my passport. What should I do?
A:	If you find any mistake/error in the particulars printed in the passport booklet and the application form you submitted, please return the passport for necessary rectification. Any additional fees required to be paid would depend on the merits of the case to be decided by the Assistant Passport Officer (APO)/RPO. If there is a misrepresentation of facts, then penalty could also be imposed. However, applicants are requested to apply online with the view to ensure that the passports are delivered without any typographical errors since applicants have themselves fed the data.

Q10:	What should be the value of the Stamp paper on which the various affidavits are to be executed?
A:	An affidavit needs to be prepared on non-judicial stamp paper of minimum value.

Q12:	What are Special Passports?
A:	India used to issue Special Passports to citizens of India who intend to travel to Bangladesh or Sri Lanka. These passports are only good for travel to the specified destination country. The government ceased issuing Indo-Bangladesh passports in 2006, although those already issued are usable until their expiration dates. These passports allow travel to Bangladesh without requiring a visa, which ordinary passport-holders need to obtain.

Q2:	How long will it take to get a Tatkal passport?
A:	After successful application form submission, with final status as "Granted", you can expect your passport to be dispatched as follows: Type of Application Type of Police Verification Expected Time To Dispatch Passport Tatkaal Police Verification is not required Within one working day excluding the date of submission of application. Police Verification is required on a Post-Passport Issuance basis On third working day excluding the date of submission of application - without waiting for the Police Verification Report.
	Note: In complex cases, such as adoption, application on behalf of a minor from single parent, major change in name, duplicate passport, doubtful documentation, the processing time will be approximately 30 days excluding the date of submission of application. Mandatory Pre Police Verification cases such as Indian citizens of J&K and Nagaland would also need additional processing time. A:	In case your passport has been damaged but recognizable, i.e. passport number is readable, name is legible and photo is intact, then you can apply for re-issue of passport under the Tatkaal scheme. But, if passport has been damaged beyond recognition, then you cannot apply under the Tatkaal scheme. In that case, you need to visit Passport Officer at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra to get the passport on urgent basis.
Q5:	If parents have passport with adverse Police Verification Report or they have a criminal background, can passport be issued to minor on an urgent basis?
A:	In such cases, minors can be issued passport under the Tatkaal scheme subject to Passport Officer's (POs) approval.

Q7:	For Tatkaal applications, while booking appointment I am asked to choose appointment quota. What is appointment quota?
A:	Two appointment quota 'Normal' and 'Tatkaal' are available for 'Tatkaal' applications. Tatkaal applicants who are not able to book an early appointment under Tatkaal quota may consider booking appointment under Normal quota also. However, Tatkaal fee will be charged irrespective of the quota under which appointment was booked byTatkaal applicant. A Tatkaal application is not only to get an early appointment but also for faster processing. For example, a Tatkaal application would be processed under post (police) verification. A:	Damaged passport is classified further based on the extent of damage, i.e.: Damaged Passport - Passport number is readable, name is legible and photo is intact Damaged beyond recognition
Q2:	What can I do if I have lost my passport and have to travel to India urgently due to an emergency like serious illness or death in the family?
A:	If you have lost your passport during traveling, then you can come to India on the basis of "Emergency Certificate". For the issuance of "Emergency Certificate", you need to contact the respective mission/post of that country.
Q3:	What are my responsibilities when applying for a passport, if my old passport has been lost or damaged?
A:	Loss of passport should be immediately reported to the nearest Police Station and to the Passport Office (PO) or Indian Mission, if abroad. A:	Photocopy of the old passport is not a mandatory document to be submitted in case of lost/damaged/stolen passport. It should be produced, if it is available. But you will be required to produce, the previous passport details like passport number, Date of issue, Date of expiry and place of issue, while filling the passport application form. If you do not have that information, then contact the respective mission/post of that country.
Q6:	My passport booklet is damaged. I want to go abroad on urgent basis. What should I do?
A:	In case your passport has not been damaged beyond recognition, i.e. passport number is legible, name is legible and photo is intact, then you can apply for re-issue of passport under the Tatkaal scheme. But, if passport has been damaged beyond recognition, then you cannot apply under the Tatkaal scheme. In that case, you need to visit Passport Officer at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra to get the passport on urgent basis.
Q7:	I lost my passport in the U.S. and have been sent to India on Emergency Certificate. Can I be issued a new passport? If yes, what are the documents needed to get a passport?
A:	In case of lost passport, you need to apply for re-issue of passport. FAQs - Postal Dispatch and Tracking

Q1: What is the mode for dispatch of passport? A: The passport is dispatched by India Post through Speed Post to the present address of the applicant. Q2: Can I personally collect my passport from the Regional Passport Office (RPO) once it is prepared? A: Passport can be collected by the applicant personally over the counter at the RPO only in case of urgency. Applicant will be required to submit an application, stating the reason for urgency, to the respective RPO for same. However the final decision about delivery of passport over the counter is vested with the concerned Regional Passport Officer. Q3: The status on the website says that my passport has been "Dispatched/ Delivered". But I haven't received it yet. What should I do? A: We request you to check the delivery status of your passport through India Post's Speed Post Tracking Utility. Based on the displayed status, you may contact the respective speed post center or your nearest Speed Post center to confirm the current status of your consignment. In case the Speed Post authorities are unable to locate your passport consignment or they have returned your passport consignment to the sender then please contact the respective Regional Passport Office for further assistance. A: The Regional Passport office (RPO) has embarked on a special pendency clearance drive. Please wait for four weeks. If you still do not receive your passport, please visit the Passport Office (PO). Q2: Why is Police Verification required for issuance of passport? A: Passport is a very valuable document. Thus, in order to ensure that it does not go in wrong hands, police verification is required for issuance of passport. Q3: What are various Police Verification modes? A: There are 2 modes of police verification: Police Verification is required on a Post-Passport Issuance basis. Police Verification is required on Pre-Passport Issuance basis. Depending on whether an application is for issue of fresh passport or re-issue of passport, Passport Office (PO) shall decide whether Police Verification is required for issuance of Passport to you. A:	The major defects noticed at the PSK/ Passport Office , when an application is scrutinized are as follows: If an applicant has stayed at more than one place during the last one year from the date of submission of his/her application, all the addresses should be indicated. Any incomplete residential information when noticed during the Police Verification not only attracts penalty but also leads to considerable delay in processing the case. Applicants are required to attach self-attested copies of all documents with the application form. Original documents must also be produced at the counter; these will be returned after verification. Whenever, there is addition of spouse name in the form and if the applicant's previous passport did not have the spouse name, attach the required documents. Similarly, whenever the spouse name is not being mentioned in the new application whereas the earlier passport had the Spouse name, then the Divorce deed/Death certificate etc. has to be enclosed, to enable the Passport Office (PO) to accede to the request of the applicant. For applicants born on or after 26.01.89, only Birth Certificate issued by the Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth and Death Certificate by the Registrar of Births and Deaths is acceptable.
